As you’re probably aware from browsing this site, I am an avid player of Petz 5, the metaphorical “bad apple” of the five main Petz games. But I wanted to play Petz 4 and see what the fuss was about. Thusly, I grabbed a copy of Petz 4 with PetzA installed from Yabiko, loaded a bunch of stuff into it, and booted it up…
I got so confused by the loading bar because I’m used to the quotes from Petz 5. My initial reaction was “why is the text so tiny??”
I love the feature that petz can come out of the AC on their own! I forgot that feature was broken in my version of Petz 5. (Unless it never was there?)
I like the concept of the Toy Closet and Clothes Closet, since everything is there, but I do kind of find it annoying that I need to pre-pack things.
The Clothes Closet is also nice, since it’s about twice as big as Petz 5’s. I don’t miss the salon either.
The playscenes are all very familiar, and I don’t mind the more cartoony style. I like the splash screens, though I was a bit confused at first and thought the game just hung up for a second.
I like that certain objects, like the Doubloons, flowers, and Snake Baskets can be taken with you! Petz 5 made them permanently attached to the scene they were found or grown in for some reason. That was especially annoying for the flowers, since it meant you couldn’t have a vase with flowers in it in the Family Room.
One of the nice things Petz 5 did is that it took the anti-Romani slur out of one of the playscene names. Just to see, I tried changing the name of the playscene myself, but due to the coding it only shows up in the list when it has the slur in it. Yup. 1999, baby. (If anyone knows a way to remove the slur and have it still work, please let me know!)
I love that a baby can be brought anywhere with their parents. It’s so cute seeing tiny petz anywhere. Petz 5’s nursery was okay, but I like this better.
The one baby per litter thing is simultaneously nice and also kind of annoying, but that’s just because I like having larger litters.
The fan content for Petz 4 is way more than for 5 for sure! I found some massively cool things all over the web.
